Malley Drive celebrates writing with families

In December, Malley Drive Elementary opened its doors for a heartwarming Writer’s Workshop Family Night that brought students and families together to celebrate learning, creativity and community.

The event embraced the season with a cozy twist—families arrived in pajamas, enjoyed seasonal music, and took a leisurely walk through the school to view student writing proudly displayed throughout the halls.

The evening reflected Adams 12’s commitment to Engage and Focus on Students, as learners took center stage and families were invited into the academic experience in a joyful, welcoming way. Student writing was celebrated as meaningful work, reinforcing the power of student voice and ownership.

Demonstrating Care and Empower, each attending student received a free book to take home, supporting literacy beyond the classroom and encouraging families to continue reading and writing together. The night concluded in the cafeteria, where families connected over festive treats, strengthening relationships and a sense of belonging within the school community.

Through collaboration, creativity, and a focus on students, Malley Drive's Writer’s Workshop Family Night was a shining example of how family engagement can support academic growth while creating lasting memories for students and their families.
